Once upon a Time... The Middle Ages

A hands-on exhibition for children ages 6 to 12

Brave knights, noble castle maidens, proud cities, splendid castles and cathedrals—this is how we like to imagine the Middle Ages. But this time long past was also shaped by war, famine, plagues, hard labor, and bitter poverty. How did people live in the city or in the countryside? What professions did they carry out, what did their homes look like, how did they dress? At this exhibition, the children can try some honey, mint coins, visit an apothecary, and get to know other guilds. They can also learn about everyday life on a medieval farm or what working in an impenetrable forest was like. In the outhouse they find out how clean things were in a castle, or test out their own agility on a wooden horse. They can design their own rosette or practice writing with a feather quill.
